Bio

Dacey Dia Villarreal was born in Ripon, Wisconsin, and moved to Bakersfield over 20 years ago. In Wisconsin, she obtained her BFA in Art Education, from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. In 2011, she completed her MFA in Fine Art at the Academy of Art University, San Francisco. Villarreal has dedicated over 20 years to teaching drawing, painting, and graphic arts at the high school and college levels.

Villarreal is currently an adjunct professor at Bakersfield College and teaches Art Appreciation. Villarreal worked as an adjunct professor at Taft College, where she taught Drawing and Composition, Painting, and Introduction to Art.

In 2020 during the Covid lockdown, Villarreal founded the online art gallery Art Brut 27. The online gallery has exhibited art worldwide and is acquiring a nice following on Instagram and Facebook. Art Brut 27 works closely with artists to help promote artists from the raw to the professional. Villarreal was fortunate to work closely with Sandy Skoglund on the Nature of Color art show.

Villarreal has exhibited work in soul, group, and online shows. To name a few places that you may have seen her work: The Bakersfield Museum of Art, The Metro Art Gallery, The Foundry, and the Bakersfield Art Association. Villarreal lives in Bakersfield with her husband David and their two children.
